C.A.N.T.E.R. Students |

| C.A.N.T.E.R. serves riders of all ages. Currently we serve
approximately 80 riders from the Sierra Vista, Palominas, and Bisbee school
districts. We are limited to the amount of riders we can take due to availability
of volunteers. There is a nominal fee to participate, however, we will not
turn anyone away due to financial circumstances. Fees are on a sliding scale
and some scholarships are available through generous contributions by individuals
and companies throughout Cochise County. All students are required to get a physician's approval before riding. Students are then evaluated by a therapist and instructor for placement in the program. Our goal with all students is to work toward independent riding. While this may not be possible with some students, we let the riders do as much as they can do by themselves. Safety is our number one priority. Riding skills and therapy are secondary. We see some incredible changes take place in our students at C.A.N.T.E.R. Many overcome their fear of animals, from screaming as they approach the horse, to hurrying to get a helmet so they can get on the horse. Imagine the vulnerability felt by a person sitting in a wheelchair with a huge equine beast standing nearby. And then, the feeling of accomplishment sitting atop that same beast and guiding it through an obstacle course. Come and watch as our students grow in their accomplishments! |
